Effective Teaching Strategies - How to keep Students Engaged and On Task
How do YOU engage your students? What teaching strategies have you used, or seen used, that keep student engaged in learning and on task? How do you reach all the students in your classroom? Any ideas or advice, share it here!
great question...that is really the number one question in high school isn't it? The reality is that if they dont want to tune in they just are not going to...not much you can do but try and establish a rapport with them and then beg...bottom line is you just wont be able to reach everyone...Wish I could send them to jail like I used to be able to do for poeple who mad me mad!....Steve
You're in science, so blow stuff up. I've always thought if I were a science teacher we would constantly be playing with something that changed color, changed shape, exploded, combusted, etc. Do that then get them to ask the question, "Why'd that happen?"
Contrary to Zach's advise, be careful about what you blow up! But I do agree that engaging students in investigations and wonderments is the way to go. When they can make things, observe natures (bugs and worms are great) and see the links to the world outside school, they are more likely to engage. I like seeing these blogs--they are a good way to share your teaching reflections. Thanks for sharing, Your dean
Like the others have been saying you need to do more hands on stuff and visual. The teaching methods that caught my attention was actually doing stuff or seeing visuals. I loved it is Chemistry class when a teacher would hold up a model of a molecule or demonstrate a reaction with the molecule kit. I liked it when we looked at bacteria after the teacher lectured. Those things help learning.

ReplyDeleteMake it relate to them Lynique! research things that are being studied. The grosser the better. Kids dig gross things.
